Implementing an Automated Fax Solution Moving from MPE to SAP ERP

The Company:

Carlisle Construction Materials (CCM) is a diversified manufacturer and supplier of premium building products for the commercial and residential construction markets. Carlisle has been a recognized leader in the roofing industry for nearly a half century, offering high-performance single-ply roofing solutions that include EPDM, TPO, PVC and roof garden systems with industry-leading warranties. In addition to roofing, CCM divisions service the waterproofing, framing and general construction industries. Doing its part to reduce a buildings carbon footprint, every Carlisle Company offers sustainable, eco-friendly products that help minimize energy consumption and costs.

The Problem:

When Carlisle originally implemented AventX MPE in 1993, they replaced snail mail and manual fax processes in pursuit of a long standing goal, “making it easy to do business with Carlisle.” Shortly after launching AventX, Carlisle identified another milestone, to automatically fax 1,000 documents monthly within the year. Within 6 months of the implementation, AventX allowed them to far exceed their expectations by processing over 9,000 fax transmissions monthly.

Fast forward to today: Carlisle has implemented SAP® ERP alongside their legacy MPE solution. Fully committed to document delivery Carlisle needed a solution for their new ERP application.

The Solution:

Given the ongoing importance of document delivery, Carlisle reviewed several SAP document delivery solutions. During the search it was discovered that STR Software had an SAP certified software solution; as Stan Rice, Manager, Information Technology stated, “that was all I needed to know. When you have an excellent relationship and a software solution that meets your needs, why change.”

Implementation of SAP as the business software solution for CCM spanned more than 6 months. STR Software continued as a strategic partner throughout the implementation and had their document delivery solution installed and configured in plenty of time to meet the overall solution deployment date. At the go-live Carlisle was faxing Quotes, Orders, Shipment Notification, Invoices, Customer Statements and Purchase Orders from SAP just as smoothly as they had with the original HP3000 solution.

Over the years CCM has enjoyed the efficiencies AventX brought to their company. And when specific fax needs changed Carlisle was quick to request software enhancements. Stan states, “We were always pleased with the enthusiasm and expertise of STR Software’s responses to Carlisle requests.”

Today with both SAP and the legacy HP3000 applications, AventX transmits over 54,000 faxes per month. As Stan says, “the STR Software solution was the correct decision in 1993 and without a doubt; it is still the correct decision for CCM in 2009.”

In summary, Bob King, Manager, IT Sales and Distribution, states, “As the project leader of STR Software’s faxing solution during the initial implementation and various phases of enhancements/upgrades, our working relationship has been and continues to be held in the highest regard. Our fax and email volumes continue to increase and delivery options are evolving in complexity. We will continue to look to STR Software for solutions to these challenges.”

STR Software specializes in document delivery solutions for email, fax, and internet fax. The AventX Product Suite integrates with internally-developed and host ERP applications including Oracle EBS, SAP, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, IFAS, EAS, and more in UNIX, Linux, MPE, and Windows environments.
