Software Developer
Job Description:
The Software Developer (SD) is responsible for participating in the design, development, testing, documentation and support of document delivery systems created by STR Software. The SD provides third level technical assistance that may include problem solving, product demonstration, product upgrades, etc. via telephone, fax, e-mail, and electronic digests. The SD is expected to work closely with members of staff, customer base and prospects to educate and provide prompt, accurate response to all questions. The SD is expected to maintain accurate records of all activity and will be held to development deadlines based on self imposed realistic estimates. The SD is expected to perform and be compensated for after-hours services such as 24by7 assistance and other billable services.
Responsibilities:
Support the development life cycle of new and existing products.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and write design documents detailing enhancements or new products with estimates on time and testing.
- Development in a fast paced production environment with close attention to detail.
- Thorough unit testing of new development to ensure productivity of Development and QA departments.
- Support of QA department’s documentation and testing efforts.
- Provide weekly status reports of activities including measurable goals and objectives.
- Flexibility to move in and out of widely different development languages and technologies such as IBM RS-6000, Sun Solaris, , HP-UX and Linux operating systems. Windows 98, NT, 2000, 2003 and XP client software. C, C++, Java, Visual Basic, Visual C++, UNIX shell scripts, Oracle Reports, Oracle Forms, PL/SQL, and more.
Provide third-level support of Technical Support Representatives (TSR) and System Engineers with the following duties:
- Perform first and second-level technical support to customers whenever additional staff is necessary from number of incoming calls, absence of other team members from vacation or sick days, etc.
- Provide timely, creative and correct problem fixes for customers experiencing issues in their environment.
- Participate with problem duplication and resolution with TSRs and SEs.
- Maintain contact with customers via phone, fax, email, and written correspondence.
- Participate and be compensated in providing 24by7 support to customers with valid contracts.
- Participate and be compensated in providing after-hours technical support to those customers who request and pay for such work.
- Create and distribute written summary of problem and its resolution. Feed the FAQ system.
- Assist TSRs with quotes for custom development and recommendations for upgrade paths.
Support internal activities with company personnel:
- Assist with the training and development of new employees.
- Assist sales force and SEs in answering prospective customer questions.
- Participate in maintenance and administration of the computer systems used in house. This may include daily software backups, system restarts, etc.
- Review and make recommendations for new equipment and software purchases.
- Act as a mentor and role model to other developers.
- Assist other employees with development issues of STR Software products, equipment, etc.
- Provide training and guidance to STR Software personnel on customer issues, product upgrades, and new products.
- Participate in regular “Lunch N Learn” training sessions both as a student and as an instructor. Using a list of topics as defined by the team, create the schedule, syllabus, material, tests, and reviews as necessary to ensure knowledge retention.
- Participate in the evaluation and development of current and new product opportunities.
Other activities as required:
- Perform offsite and onsite customer presentations, demonstrations, etc.
- Assist with distribution of promotional materials, software releases, upgrades, etc.
- Attend trade shows, seminars, and training classes, as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This person reports to the Manager of Product Development.
Compensation:
