Brewery Upgrades to Oracle R12 and Replaces Manual Faxing with Automated Email and Fax Solution

The Company:

Sleeman Breweries Ltd., one of the fastest growing premium brewers in North America is built on old family principals and eighteenth century recipes. Sleeman distinguishes itself by its respect for consumer intelligence, palate and overall experience. The Problem:

Sleeman’s existing purchasing system offered a limited, homegrown tie-in to Oracle 11.5.8 and required that sales orders and purchase orders be manually processed. During the migration to Oracle R12, Sleeman realized it was the right time to eliminate the manual processing of documents by implementing a fully-supported automated fax and email system. Sleeman required a solution with superior Oracle EBS R12 integration and the ability to batch deliver any BI Publisher-created document.

The Solution:

With the deadline for evaluating and procuring an integrated fax and email solution drawing near, Brian Cappellaro, Sleeman’s Director of IT, attended the Southern Ontario Oracle Applications Users Group meeting to investigate potential solutions. There, Brian attended a presentation by Ben Bruno, President of STR Software and Larry Michieli, former VP of Financial Systems at Rogers Communications. During the presentation Brian learned how the AventX Oracle Connector from STR Software allowed Rogers Communications to fax 3,500 BI Publisher created Purchase Orders with supporting attachments directly from EBS on a daily basis. Impressed with the functionality, Brian quickly realized that monitoring this quantity of documents must be a daunting task.

Almost as if Larry knew what Brian was thinking, Larry immediately began speaking about how AventX uses an Oracle form to report the delivery status of each document. Taking it a bit further, Larry also spoke about how the system can be configured to alert individual users via email when delivery succeeds and/or fails.

Immediately following the show, Brian contacted STR Software to inquire about how AventX could solve Sleeman Breweries document delivery related business needs within R12. After reviewing customer testimonials and participating in a private demonstration of AventX Brian stated, “We were impressed with [STR Software] and the comments of customer satisfaction. AventX’s integration with Oracle is very strong. Being so strong, we didn’t evaluate any other competitors. [STR Software’s] product functionality filled our need end-to-end.” Today, Sleeman Breweries uses AventX to automatically deliver up to 300 pages of purchase orders and sales order acknowledgements with attachments on a daily basis.
